In life, faith is like a guiding thread that helps us find purpose, hope, and positive change. For us believers who are seeking to deepen our relationship with God and experience the fullness of the freedom Jesus paid a price for us to have, there's a beautiful journey of learning and growing ahead.

As someone on the same faith journey, I understand the desire to learn and grow spiritually while enjoying the freedom Jesus provided. Here are some ideas and practices that can help us deepen that relationship. It’s not a formula at all, just ideas and thoughts that have worked for me!

What Lies Ahead: Jesus's teachings are timeless and offer not just eternal life but also a guide to living a good life here and now. On earth as it is in Heaven! Each step we take, each idea we embrace, helps us understand ourselves, God, and the world around us, including the people in it. Remember, this journey isn't about being perfect but about making progress and growing along the way.

10 Principles for Spiritual Growth and Freedom: Let's talk about 10 principles that can help us grow spiritually and experience the freedom Jesus offers us. From praying more to being open with our feelings, from reading the Bible to being thankful, each idea helps us get closer to God and live a meaningful life.

We're in This Together: We will be growing from glory to glory until the return of Jesus. That means we aren’t done! His work at the cross is done, but we are not. Remember, you're not alone on this journey. All of us believers are in it together, each of us with our own stories and dreams, traumas and flaws. We all are growing from glory to glory, and deepening our faith as we go. As we explore these ideas, take time to think about them, talk about them, and understand how they fit into your life.

1. Relationship over Religion:

Remember that Christianity is not just a set of rules or rituals; it's a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Cultivate a personal, intimate connection with God by spending time in prayer, studying the Bible, and seeking His presence daily. This relationship forms the foundation for all other aspects of our faith journey. Don’t compare your relationship with Jesus with anyone else’s. We are all individuals, very unique, and He loves us each in a very unique way—therefore, the relationship we have with Him and the way He speaks to each of us is also very unique.

2. Surrender and Trust:

Surrendering our lives to Jesus is essential. He doesn’t just want to be a part of it, He wants it all surrendered to Him, all aspects of our lives. Let go of self-reliance and trust that God's plans for us are greater than our own. Surrendering involves submitting our desires, ambitions, and decisions to God's will, allowing Him to guide our path. Acknowledging Him in all that we do!

3. Study the Scriptures:

The Bible is a rich source of wisdom, guidance, and revelation about God's character and His plan for humanity. Regularly study and meditate on the Scriptures to understand God's message, principles, and promises. This study equips you to discern His voice and apply His teachings to your life.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6

4. Worship and Gratitude:

Worship is another integral aspect, as it helps us express our gratitude, reverence, and awe for God's goodness. Our lives should be worship onto God. Take a look at “From Pain to Praise: Unleashing Deeper Levels of Freedom by Embracing a Lifestyle of Worship”—A recent post about a lifestyle of worship.

5. Embrace Grace:

Understand and accept the concept of God's grace. The freedom we have in Christ is not earned through our actions, but is a gift freely given because of Jesus' sacrifice. Embrace this grace, knowing that our mistakes and shortcomings are covered by His unmerited favor. In my most recent book, The Pursuit of Freedom, there is a section of a chapter called “There is Grace for Our Journey”, and it is all about embracing His grace, instead of trying to strive to deserve His love, or anything else that He already gave us—for free!

6. Pursue Holiness:

Salvation is a gift! When we were saved, God didn’t just improve us, He made us brand-new! Our old man died with Jesus at cross, and we were resurrected victorious! Holy! Righteous! Now it is our responsibility to learn to live in that manner. Growing in Christ involves pursuing a life of holiness. Allowing the Holy Spirit to transform our character, aligning it with God's nature. This process involves recognizing areas of our lives that need refinement and allowing God to work in and through us.

7. Community and Fellowship:

Engage with a supportive Christian community. Surround ourselves with fellow believers who can encourage, challenge, and walk alongside us on our faith journey. Participating in a local church or small group provides opportunities for accountability, growth, and service.

8. Prayer and Intimacy:

Prayer is a powerful way to communicate with God and deepen our relationship with Him. Develop a consistent prayer life that includes both speaking to God and listening for His response. Prayer doesn’t have to be something formal and be done in specific times. Prayer is conversation with Him! As simple as that! If we are to pray without ceasing, that means that communication never stops! I like to call it my open chat room with Jesus! Where I am constantly speaking and listening for His response. Thankfully He never leaves us hanging! He never leaves us unanswered, not one message we send Him stays without an answer! We just have to lean in to hear it well.

9. Serve and Love Others:

Jesus's ministry was characterized by love and service. Follow His example by actively serving and loving others. Whether it's through acts of kindness, volunteering, or supporting those in need, demonstrating Christ's love is a tangible way to live out our faith.

10. Persevere Through Challenges:

Remember that our journey is not without challenges. Jesus said: In this world you will have trouble. But take heart, I have overcome the world! (John 16:33) Difficulties and trials will arise, but they can be opportunities for growth and refinement, if we just look from a different perspective, His perspective. Persevere through these challenges by relying on God's strength, leaning on His promises, and seeking His guidance.

In Closing...

In essence, growing in our relationship with God and renewing our minds, to be able to experience the freedom Jesus paid for, requires an ongoing commitment to deepening your faith through connections, surrender, study, prayer, worship, community, and love. When we align our lives with His, we get to experience the abundant life that Jesus promised (John 10:10) and truly live in the fullness of His freedom.

With an open heart and a desire to learn, we can get further and continually have new revelations of the Word of God, because it is alive! Let's embark on this faith adventure together and delve into these ten crucial concepts that can draw us closer to God and the freedom He offers. As we put these ideas into practice, we'll experience spiritual growth and positive changes in our lives.

And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

2 Corinthians 3:18

Activation Time...

This week we talked about 10 essential steps that will help us pursue a mindset of abundance, growth, and freedom.

What I would like to suggest is that each day of the week, you choose one step and apply it all day long.

For instance, if Monday you chose Step 8 - To Serve and Love Others, ask Holy SPirit, how can you serve and love others that day, and find opportunities to do that throughout your day. At work, home, where ever you go. Even if it is the simplest thing, such as smiling at someone.

I always suggest we journal everything at the end of the day or the next morning to capture our experiences with The Lord.

Have Fun!
